Log Kya Kahenge?
Why is Indian society so mindful of what others think? When teens or children want to do something that they like, parents always bring up the question of  "Log kya kahenge?" which literally translates to "What will others say?".
Say for example, in an Indian household, a girl who has just finished her Bachelor's Degree in Science wants to go abroad for her higher studies and get a job. Her parents will always, without batting an eye will say, "Why to go for higher studies when you can get married and settle down."  And if she asks her parents, "Why do I have to get married when I can get a good job after my studies?", they simply reply saying, "But what will our relatives say?" You may be thinking that in the 21st century who would say such a thing (believe me, I've heard stories).
One simple thing we all can do to change this perspective of society is simply not minding whatever others say and do whatever you think makes sense to you. Also, remember that whoever judges you is not going to be with you to face whatever happens and will only sit by and simply watch.
When parents deny their children from getting something or doing something, they often tend to drift off to a fantasy world where they can do anything they want and are not controlled by anything.
So in conclusion, all I'm trying to say is that societal influences have a major impact on the youth of the country, who are supposedly the 'Future of the Country' that everyone cares about so much. More on that next time.
Until next time.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.
